If you are interested in learning more about adopting our puppies, please read this information and then give us a call. We would like to get to know you so that we can match you with the best puppy.

When we breed a litter our goal is to breed the very best and keep a show puppy.  We know we cannot keep every puppy so there will usually be show and pet/companion puppies available in each litter.  Show puppies range from $1500-$2000, companion puppies (which are not to be bred) are $1200.  Akitas can be dominant over other dogs so it is important for you to let us know if you already have any dogs, what their sex is, and your home situation.   It would also be important for us to get references, your veterinarian, previous breeder, etc.

Akitas do not need a huge yard but they do not do well without a fence or with underground fences.  Akitas cannot be let off leash to roam.  We walk our akitas around our subdivision and they are very well behaved.  They love to meet the neighbors and most often love to meet the other dogs.  Akitas are prey driven so they would also like to chase the ducks and geese we have around the lakes here.   Akitas are a special breed and not for everyone.  My dogs love strangers but will warn us when anyone comes onto our property.

Another aspect of owning an Akita, and really any dog, is that you have to be the pack leader.  You cannot let Akitas rule your household.  You and all of the people in the family should be alpha.  There are many breeds of dogs that rule but a large dog like an akita cannot or you may be faced with a dog you cannot control.  Our dogs have wonderful temperaments and love people.  They have gotten less dominant over the years even over other dogs.  Even with that, we must be able to control their behavior in our home and in the outside world.  I like to take my puppies to my clinic, for rides in the car, and they go to matches and shows as early as possible.

We also believe that crate training is very important.  Our dogs always ride in crates in the car and are safer that way.  Dogs are den animals and if trained properly will love to go in their crates.  Our puppies play outside and when they are tired will go back into their run.  If  an Akita is going to be a show dog it is essential they feel comfortable in a crate.  As a veterinarian, it is also great when dogs LIKE to go to the vet!  We give puppies a lot of treats, let them stay for short periods of time.  It need not be a traumatic experience.

If you are interested in one of our puppies or adults, give us a call and tell us about yourselves.  Our home number is 770-5780874.  We do take deposits on litters.  We do like to match the perfect pup with your home/situation.
